Post #1 - Mission trip to Guatemala

The Millennium Development Goals committee of the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia is sponsoring a mission trip to Guatemala in the summer of 2011. This trip will be a Habitat for Humanity house build. We are scheduled for July 9 through July 17 in the Guatemala Department (State) of El Progreso. El Progreso is located about 1.5 hours North East of Guatemala City.

The trip is open to diocese member who are 18 years or older. You must have a valid passport and be able to do moderate physical activity. Nick Moga, a member of Emmanuel Church Covington will be our leader. He will be assisted by David Dixon, deacon at St. Paul's Salem.

A presentation on the trip and question and answer session will be held January 29 at the Hotel Roanoke at 1:45PM in the Hotel Roanoke Conference Center as part of the Diocese annual council meeting.

Interested participants need to make their interest known to Nick (nickmoga @aol.com). An interview will take place and a non returnable $350 deposit is required by April 15.

The cost of the trip is estimated to be $1000 not including airfare to Guatemala. It is anticipated that a group airfare package will be available to participants.

This blog will serve as a site to support participants and people interested in the trip.
